A large column of dark smoke rose over Santa Ana on Saturday morning as firefighters responded to a fire at the Madison Resource Recovery Facility on East Fourth Street, drawing attention from residents across Santa Ana and neighboring cities.
The Orange County Fire Authority incident was listed as a confirmed commercial fire at 10:06 a.m. PST on November 7. The incident was recorded at 1035 E. Fourth Street, at the rear of the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center, where the Madison Resource Recovery Facility operates.
The facility, also known as Madison Materials, processes construction and demolition waste, including wood, drywall, concrete, metals, plastics and other recyclable materials. The fire produced a substantial smoke column visible above the surrounding area.
Publicly available incident information did not immediately identify the specific materials involved, the cause of the fire, whether anyone was injured or the extent of any property damage. It was also unclear when firefighters brought the incident under control.
The property was the site of a separate large fire on March 23, 2025, at an open-air industrial recycling facility. A subsequent City of Santa Ana staff report documented that water used during firefighting operations in that incident carried contaminated runoff into nearby street gutters.
Further details about Saturday's fire were not immediately available.
